#       1990: PhD Applied Mathematics TU Delft, Macroscopic theory of two-phase bubbly flow

After his PhD Loek joined Shell in June 1990, starting his career in the Equipment Engineering (EE) Department at the KSLA Lab. After a 1-year assignment at Shell Oil’s Westhollow Technology Center (WTC) in Houston, he returned as Team Leader Multiphase Flow of the OGUF Fluid Flow Business Group (BG), leading the development of slug mitigation solutions and Traflow/Compas, Shell’s internal dynamic threephase flow simulator. OGUF got integrated into Shell Global Solutions where he was appointed Business Team Manager (BTM) of the OGUA Flow Assurance BG. A second international assignment followed from 2003 to 2006, where he combined his BTM duties with technical work in the Flow Assurance Systems Team, among others as the Flow Assurance Lead for the BC-10 heavy oil deepwater project. In 2006 he relocated back to Amsterdam to become the Regional Manager of the GSUF Fluid Flow & Flow Assurance Delivery Group (DG). January 2010 Loek became the manager of the new Pipelines, Flow Assurance & Subsea delivery group, double hatting as Regional Discipline Head actively involved in developing and teaching the Shell internal Flow Assurance course. He played a fundamental role in the development and commecialisation of Low Dosage Hydrate Inhibitors. 2018 he changed to an Engineering Manager role leading a cross discipline team supporting upstream with a particular focus on Industrial Cleaning, Decommissioning & Restoration (D&R) and Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) projects, developing new technologies and methods in all three areas, combined with the successful commercialisation of Smart Choke for slug mitigation and Pipe Clamping Mattress for pipeline stabilisation by setting up licence agreements with Wood Group and MMA Offshore, respectively.

May 1st 2025 Loek has left Shell on voluntary severance starting his consultancy company FATC.
